Target Teaching Finds

My First Education Post:

Target Teaching Finds

When I first decided to start my own blog, I wanted it to mainly be about fashion. Then I thought, well, since I'm a teacher too I might as well incorporate education in it. Especially since I absolutely love crafty DIY classroom projects and classroom decor. Hence, a daily dose of "class." Since I recently started my blog, I have had so many requests from people asking if I would post teaching hacks, classroom decor, etc. SO here is my first education post πŸ™Œ  If you are not a teacher and only read my blog for the fashion side of it, bear with me! I am only going to do education related posts once or twice a month, sometimes more and sometimes less (depending on the time of year).

I have been SO excited about this post so that I could share with you these AFFORDABLE and ADORABLE classroom finds! As most of you know or have read, I am a K-5 Special Education Teacher. The majority of my day is spent teaching core academic subjects but I also teach social skills, life skills, and fine motor skills throughout the day. I am constantly on the lookout for teaching tools and hands on activities that not only help students learn academics, but also tools that assist them with those other crucial skills (social, life, fine motor, etc).

One thing that I take pride in is the colorful, positive, and inviting atmosphere that I ensure my classroom has at ALL times. For those of you that have seen my classroom, you know just what I'm talking about. Every color that you can possibly imagine, you can find in my room somewhere. In my mind, if my classroom looks happy, it makes my students (and myself) feel happy. I mean... who wants to walk into a colorless and dull classroom?! I know I didn't when I was in elementary school so my students shouldn't have to either. Anyway, I could ramble on all day about how much I love decorating my room and providing for my students but let's get down to what this post is really about.

I wanted to share with you today my recent finds in the Bullseye's Playground section at Target (the typically $1 to $5 section in store). Everything that I purchased was $3 or LESS. How can you beat that?!

These puzzles are PERFECT for hands on learning and only $3 a piece! The colorful fish is a puzzle for numbers 1-10 and not only helps students learn their numbers, but also helps them with their fine motor skills. I'm actually doing a ocean theme in my room this year so this will be perfect! The snake (or maybe eel) puzzle will help students learn their letters A-Z in the correct order, while again helping with fine motor skills. These are so colorful and engaging and I can't wait for my students to use them!

1. Numbers 1-10 Poster- I cannot wait to hang this in my room this coming year! It is so bright and colorful and will add even more color to my room 😊  I also love how it not only has numbers but also the corresponding number of objects! This will really help students with one to one correspondence and allow them to see the number of objects that represent that number at all times. Go snag yours now for only $1!
2. Wood ClipsI am BEYOND obsessed with these wood clips 😍  Not to mention they were only $1!! There are so many things that you could use these for. At the beginning of the year, I assign each student a number that is written beside their name on their name tag. I just find it much easier to sometimes write their number on things than their name. I use a behavior clip chart in my classroom where students either move their clip up as a reward or move their clip down as a consequence. These clips would be perfect for my chart and really provide them with a visual of their number and where it is on the clip chart at all times!
3. Colorful Countdown Chart- This is TOO cool! They have it advertised at a "countdown to winter break" chart but you could really use it for anything! Definitely worth $3 πŸ™Œ  In my opinion, it would be a great chart to use for the 100 days of school countdown. I love celebrating the 100th day of school and I think this would be perfect to use for that! Comment below if you can think of any other ways that this chart could be used, I'd love to hear your ideas!

Last but not least are my ABC finds! I LOVE magnetic letters when it comes to teaching phonics and these colorful mini ones (top left) are perfect! They were also only $1! I am a Pinterest lover, as I'm sure many of you are, and I recently saw an idea of using a magnetic lunch box to help students learn to build words. I am going to use these letters to do just that! You keep all the letters in the bottom of the lunch box and when you open it, you prop open the top and use it as a "board" for students to build words. So cute and clever! I will most definitely post pictures when I try it out. Last is the alphabet bulletin board border (bottom). Who doesn't love bulletin board stuff?! I'm actually going to create a word wall bulletin board this year and I thought this would be the perfect border (only $1!)

COMMENT BELOW anything you would like to see in my future education posts or any feedback on this one! I love to hear from you all, especially your suggestions as to how I can improve my blog! Most importantly, HURRY HURRY HURRY to your local Target and snag these items for your classroom before they're gone!
