Teacher + Blogger: A Balancing Act

with a surprise at the end so stay with me here...

I have seen so many new faces and names lately so I wanted to take a break from just the fashion and jewelry posts and talk about real life things for just a second. First of all if you are new to following me, THANK YOU and I really hope you enjoy my blog! I also recommend following along with me on Instagram and for even more content that doesn't always make it on here. I put a lot of time and effort into this and love every single minute of it but I want to always make sure you guys love it too. For as long as social media has been a thing, I've been following fashion/travel/make up/lifestyle/etc bloggers and have always thought, wow that is SO cool.. I wish I could do that. I went back and forth about starting my own for several years but never had the courage to do it. I spend hours and hours of my time telling my students that they will never know something until they try so why did I have to tell myself that for so long?! Who knows. Luckily, last June, I finally worked up the nerve and it was hands down one of the best decisions I've ever made! I know many girls who blog for their full time job and even though that is something I would love to maybe do one day, it's not the case for me right now. As many of you may know in addition to blogging, I am also a full time teacher.

If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me how I had time to do both, I would be rich 😂 I'm not going to lie, when I first started blogging in June of last year, I had NO IDEA how much effort and time that it took. If you don't understand blogging or follow many bloggers, you probably don't believe how much goes into it. When I started my blog, I had just finished my first year of teaching and was out for summer break. I had a lot of time to put into content planning, doing collaborations, typing up blog posts, doing photo shoots, etc. so everything was great! But in August, school started back and it hit me like a brick wall. Not only was I blogging full time (or trying to) and teaching full time, but also I was in the middle of planning my wedding. It was extremely hard to manage my time at first and I'm not even going to lie, I'm sure that my teaching and my blogging suffered from it at times. However, time management is something that I've always been good at so I figured it out pretty quickly (I can credit that to my OCD and color coordinated planner lol). I've always been a firm believer in the quote, "people make time for the things that they care about." And I don't mean that you can magically have time to do every single thing that you want to do every single day. We all know that's not remotely realistic. What I mean is that if you truly care about something enough, you will make it work. That goes for jobs, relationships, friendships, everything. I love blogging and I love teaching so therefore I figured out a way to do both. I try to make my blog posts relevant and affordable and also incorporate teaching things from time to time (which I'm working on doing more of that).

So how do I do it all? You know, manage my time. If you are a teacher, you know that not only are you not supposed to be on your cell phone during the school day but also what is a phone when you have a classroom full of kids running around?! 😂 I type up all of my blog posts on the weekends and at night and publish them either the next morning or that night depending on what time it is. Each full blog post that I type up takes anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours, depending on how much writing I do, pictures I include, and links I share. So as you can see, it's not easy but it's worth it to me and I love every second of it.

My point is... if you care enough about something GO FOR IT! Do what makes you happy and give it your ALL.

Every minute that I spend teaching is for my students and every minute that I spend blogging is for you guys! Just like the smile on a students face when they learn something new that I've taught them, nothing makes me happier than reading the comments/messages/etc from my followers telling me about something I posted that they loved. Hearing those affirmations really is the best feeling! It makes this balancing act all worth while 💕
